My cousin Gary Muffley, flew Caribous into small special forces camps like Loch Ninh
Typical freight for the twin engined caribou aircraft was "live food" (in this case pigs). Captain Muffley often flew people as well. Some of the landing sites were so small that he would fly in, break hard, turn around and reposition the aircraft for immediate take off. It was not uncommon to be "mortared" during this process. On the 2nd day of flying with him, we landed in Dau Tieng to unload 25 US troops we ferried from Long Binh. We were mortared during the unloading process and had to hustle the guys off the plane and take off immediately. .
